Barbara Gabriel
Barbara is the owner/operator of the Mommie Dearest School of Dance & Charm and has danced, taught, choreographed, and performed for over 30 years. As a performer, she has probably played every hooker/stripper part in Musical Theater. As a choreographer, she has choreographed a wide array of shows, from well-known musicals such as "The Music Man", "The Unsinkable Molly Brown", "Oliver", "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", "Guys & Dolls", and "Closer Than Ever", to more quirky performances such as The Mystery of Edwin Drood to the ever popular Vampire Lesbians of Sodom. She is proud to be the choreographer for the Demented Divas.
As a teacher, Barbara has taught dance to students in public schools, numerous dance studios, and her own studio. At 60 something, Barbara is not ready to retire or back down and she will continue to inspire and empower History, Women's Studies, and Geography students at Metro & CCA to stand up, question everything (especially the government), challenge old patterns, and dare to change the world!

I studied Ballet and Tap for 10 years of my childhood and for the past 5 years have been dancing again with the Mommie Dearest School of Dance and Charm. My sons have joined me at the studio and have grown in their self-confidence. For the last 6 years I have been a preschool teacher and to be able to share the joy of dancing with young children is a privilege.

I have been through life's challenges and I am thrilled my path has led me to the Mommie Dearest School of Dance and Charm. I am a cerified ZUMBA instructor and I am a Zumbaholic! I love it and everything about it! I love this class, the people are the best, and I am excited to be part of the "Mommie Dearest" family.
Life is a gift and we need to remember to dance, smile and have fun. Zumba is all that and much more! It is latin dance with hip hop mixed with fitness, fun and smiles. I love teaching my Zumba class and I know you will love it, too You'll lose weight, get fit and have fun while dancing and shaking eery part of your body. Rule #1 (the only rule), is to have fun, dance, and shake your booty. You'll see and feel muscles you never knew you had. ABS, the entire class is working your core while dancing Salsa, Cumbia, Reaggeton, Merengue.

I took my first Yoga class in Chicago many years ago. I received my Yoga Certification in 1991 and have been teaching for 20 years. I have taught Yoga at the University of Denver, Parker Rec Center, Englewood Rec Center, Englewood Senior Center, Better Bodies Fitness, Cherry Creek Athletic Club, National Council of State Legislators, and Bally Fitness Clubs in Aurora, Galleria, Thornton, Lakewood and Englewood. I teach a combination of different styles of Yoga - Hatha, Sivanda, lyengar, Kundilin and Vinayasa. My classes are very laid back without any pressure on students to overextend themselves. Yoga is not just stretching and flexibility. Yoga also includes strength, endurance, balance, posture, and Yogic breathing. Yoga can help to reduce stress and anxiety and bring peace of mind. You are going to get out of Yoga what you are willing to put into it. In other words, if you want to improve, you should come to classes and practice at home. Yoga can not only help you physically but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
